Local Mascots in each area of Sapporo(1)

Sapporo has 10 wards, Chuo-ku, Kita-ku, Higashi-ku, Shiroishi-ku, Atsubetsu-ku, Toyohira-ku, Kiyota-ku, Minami-ku, Nishi-ku and Teine-ku. There are local mascots in 8 wards of Sapporo. I would like to introduce these local mascots.

Kita-ku

”Poppy" is a poplar fairy. Its head is designed in the motif of a poplar leaf and a ginkgo leaf is stuck on its bottom. Its favorite foods are broccoli and lettuce made in Kita-ku. Its hobby is walking to stay healthy.

Higashi-ku

”Tappy" is an onion fairy. Its design and name were chosen by the public. It was named by combining “tamanegi”, which means onion in Japanese, and “happy”. Higashi-ku is the birthplace of onion cultivation in Japan. “Sapporoki” is a good quality onion which has been made through research and improvement. This was registered in the Ark Of Taste in 2006.

Shiroishi-ku

“Shiroppy” and “Kuroppy” are the mascots in Shiroishi-ku. Their motif is a rose and a snowman. ”Shiroppy” was born in 2008, and “Kuroppy” was born this year as Shiroppy’s rival.

Atsubetsu-ku

“Pikatto-kun” is a forest fairy He was born and raised in Nopporo Shinrin Kōen Prefectural Natural Park. It likes to go to a festivals and play with children. It was born on 2 February, 2006. Atsubetsu-ku marked their 30th anniversary in November, last year. Taking this opportunity, “Pikatto-kun” was redesigned.

You can see them at local events and festivals.
