Local Mascots in each area of Sapporo(2)

Let me introduce local mascots and attractions of 4 areas in Sapporo. I would be happy you take an interest in them.

Toyohira-ku

Korin and meetan are mascots which were born in 2004 in Toyohira-ku. They are detectives to discover charms of this town. Korin is designed with a motif of an apple, because apple grown was so active in the Meiji era that the apples were export to Russia and Singapore. There is a Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill which is a tourist attraction and keep many sheeps in Toyohira-ku. Therefore Meetan with a motif of sheep was made. Jingisukan, which is one of local food of Hokkaido, is a dish of grilling mutton and vegetables.

Kiyota-ku

Kiyotti is a forest fairy living in Mt.Shirahata located in Kiyotaku. His hat is shaped of the symbol of Kiyota-ku. Kiyotti is fond of Kiyota sweets which are made for promoting the town as one of attractions. He has theme songs, so why don’t you listen to them.

Nishi-ku

Sankakuyamabe which is a mascots of Nishi-ku, is Yokai, japanese monster, and estimated to be 1.5 million years old. He loves nature, and he is relaxing and self-sufficient. He is interested in environmental problem, and he work for advertising environmental activities of this town.

Teine-ku

“Teinu” is a dog with a head shaped in the form of a hand. It was found in Teine mountain on 6 November, 1989. It likes pumpkins, watermelons and cream buns. Pumpkins and watermelons are grown in Teine-ku. The type of pumpkins that are cultivated is “Ohamamiyako”. The characteristics of the sandy soil in Teine-ku, which are well drained and have a large difference in temperature during the day, make Ohamamiyako's powder quality and sugar content great.

There are more local mascots in Sapporo, and also all over Japan. "Yuru-Chara Grand Prix" is held to rank the popularity of them and promote each town and Japan once a year. Unfortunately this event end this year. You can vote in this contest, so why don't you do that?
