Souvenirs from Hokkaido

When you visit Hokkaido, you will buy souvenirs.

This time, we recommend souvenirs.

Jaga Pokkuru (じゃがポックル)

This is a potato snack from Calbee company.

Pokkuru means person under the butterbur in Ainu.

This snack is made from potatoes that grow in Hokkaido.

Also, this snack is salty and this salt is made in Hokkaido.

It has several flavors. For example scallop.

Its texture is crispy.

You should try unique texture and flavor!

It is sold only in Hokkaido. So I recommend this as a Hokkaido souvenir.

If you are interested in Jaga Pokkuru, you should visit here

Mel Cheese

Do you know mel cheese? It is sweet and sold only in Hakodate.

Mel cheese is sold at Petit Melville, it means a small elegance.

It is true because the taste is so great. I want you to eat absolutely.

The main point is that almost all the ingredients are from Hokkaido.

Milk, butter, eggs and so on.

Mel cheese has many kinds of flavours, such as strawberry, chocolate, and pumpkin.

This sweet is a little difficult to eat since it is soft. So I usually eat it not using a fork but directly with the mouth.

By the way, Petit Melville has other products. One of them is pumpkin pudding.

So if you buy mel cheese, why don’t you buy other products.

Yokan

Yokan is a traditional, and famous confectionery in Japan. It’s made from boiled adzuki bean paste which is called Anko. Normally, it tastes sweet.

I guess some readers were surprised by this idea because you can buy a Yokan around Japan. But, there are three yokans which are called the Hokkaido three yokan. Generally, this group is composed of yokan made by Shibetsu Yokan Head Shop, Yagi Confection Shop, and Gokatteya Head Shop.

Actually, I ate only one of them, Shibetsu Yokan. But, I like the taste of Shibetsu Yokan because it is not too sweet.

I recommend you to eat it once. Shibetsu Yokan is sold around Hokkaido. This is a characteristic of Shibetsu Yokan. Of course, you can buy bigger than the picture in some souvenir shops or supermarkets, but you can buy a small piece of it in a convenience store.
