Mt. Apoi

 Mt. Apoi

Hi everyone, I’m Yuka. Today, I’d like to introduce Mt. Apoi.

Mt. Apoi is located in Samani in the eastern part of Hidaka, Hokkaido. It is located near the southern tip of the Hidaka Mountains and is composed of Horoman Kanran rocks. It is a low altitude of 810 meters above sea level, but unique geological conditions and harsh weather conditions overlap, so there are various alpine plants and endemic plants such as Hidakasou and Ezokouzorina, which only live here.

In 2008, it was certified as a Japan Geopark. In addition, it joined the UNESCO Global Geopark in 2015. There are only nine UNESCO World Geoparks recognized in Japan, including Mt. Apoi.

Mt. Apoi is a relatively easy mountain to enjoy with light equipment. It takes about 2.5 to 3.5 hours to the top, and it takes about 4.5 to 6 hours round trip. From the trailhead, you will climb through the mixed needleleaf and broadleaf forest for a while, and you can enjoy various herbaceous plants among them. Colorful alpine plants stand out from near the mountain hut at the 5th station. If the weather is clear, you may enjoy the spreading panorama of the Pacific Ocean and the Hidaka Mountains from the Umanose.

That’s all for today. Why don’t you climb Mt. Apoi and feel nature? Thank you for reading this blog.
