Beautiful Scenery in Hokkaido

There are lots of sightseeing spots in Hokkaido, and sometimes this may makes visitors wonder where to go. So I want to recommend one of my favorite beautiful spots.

Kaminoko Lake

It is a little lake in Kiyosato (east of Hokkaido),and its water flows from Masyuu Lake. Masyuu Lake is also called “Kamino Lake” which means “a lake of god”,so its name is “Kaminoko Lake”(Kaminoko means a child of god)

Actually, Masyuuko is the second clearest lake in the world. This is why Kaminoko Lake is so beautiful.

In addition, you can enjoy a slightly different blue color depending on the season. For example, if you go there between spring and fall, you can see cobalt blue water. If you go there in winter, its water turns dark blue.

Also, there is an esplanade around the lake, so you can observe fallen trees and fish in this lake from every angle. And walking in the woods has a healing effect.

Shirogane Blue Pond

Shirogane Blue Pond located in Biei town is famous for its color. As its name suggests, the pond's color is blue.

Why?

Why does the pond look blue?  The upper stream of Biei river has elements of aluminum, these kinds of elements scatter the sunlight. So, the pond color changed to blue. 

In 2012, Apple adopted this pond as a wallpaper for iOS7.8. 

We can go there on the JR and the bus. If you want to visit it, I recommend it!!

Kaiyodai

The kaiyodai is a famous driving spot in eastern Hokkaido. You can see a 330° wide natural view and the horizon from an observation deck. After enjoying the wild view, I recommend you to eat honey ice cream. 

It’s in Nakashibetsu town in eastern Hokkaido. It's a rural place so the place is popular to practice driving too.

Drift ice

 

I will introduce drift ice. In winter, you can see drift ice at the sea of Okhotsk. There is big white ice on the sea, and it so beautiful. Drift ice of Hokkaido is rare, we can see the drift ice in the southernmost Northern Hemisphere.

You can ride ships that move in the drift ice, for example Garinko ship, Orora ship and Rausu bard all take people on viewing cruises.

When you put out to sea you can see big drift ice, seals and sea lions that sleep on the ice.

Also sea butterflies that are called the angels of drift ice are only here.

Hokkaido in winter is very cold, but you can have a special experience.
