About the CALL Room

 About the CALL Room

What is the CALL Room

Do you know the CALL room in our university? The CALL means Computer Assisted Language Learning. So, you can learn English using e-learning services such as Alc Netacademy or ReallyEnglish. In short, the CALL room is similar to the computer room in the schools which you graduated from. So, the CALL room is available not only for e-learning but also for just surfing the net, discussing, or chatting among GEL pro members and your friends.

Where is the CALL Room

The CALL room for the GEL pro students is on the ground floor in the Library building. To go to the room, enter the left side entrance of the university building, go straight, and turn left at the corner next to the elevator. You will see the scene below. So go straight on along this way.

When you find a room with glass walls, you’ll find the CALL room on the right hand side.

When/How We Can Use

The CALL room is open from 7 am to 8 pm on weekdays/7 am to 11 pm on weekends. If the door of the room is open, you can use computers for your purposes. During this time, sometimes some GEL pro students take lessons in the room, but you can enter the room and do your tasks at the back of the room. Also, Andy is in the room often. So you can ask him for one-to-one lessons or some advice for applying to study abroad.

If you want to use computers in the room, push the power button, then enter your UNIPA’s username and password.

Additional Information

I will introduce you to some of the features of the CALL room. As you know, most of our universities’ classrooms don’t have air conditioning systems. But, the CALL room has.

The CALL room has a tiny library. This means you can borrow some books for studying for the IELTS, TOEFL, and TOEIC. For now, it is not available, but in the future, it will be.

Like these, there are a lot of benefits for students in the CALL Room.

So GEL pro members are so lucky to use this room freely and be supported by kind teachers.

If you are interested in English and want to study abroad, I definitely recommend that you join the GEL program.

I have just explained about the CALL Room so far, so next I will introduce our lessons which we always have!

What we always study

Now, we have two lessons in a week: Presentation, and Business Communication &IT.

In the Presentation lesson, we try to improve our English skills (especially speaking skills) by preparing for a presentation we have in the last lesson.

We have been learning how to make a good presentation through being taught by our teacher or communicating with GEL pro members.

This lesson is so fun and good for developing English speaking skills because we mainly talk with GEL pro members or teachers in English.

Business Communication & IT lessons are lessons which have a purpose to improve our English writing skills by making some blogs.

First, we are separated into groups which have 4 or 5 members.

Then, we will try to write some articles on the blog together.

It looks very simple, but actually this is harder than I thought. This is because we must make a schedule and keep in touch in order to meet the deadline.

Though it’s hard, we can have an opportunity to cooperate with somebody and feel a sense of achievement. So I think it’s fully worth doing.
