・Yakumo-cho, Hokkaido

→Yakumo-cho is a town that was pioneered after the Meiji Restoration.

  As a source of income in winter when farming can’t be done, farmers

  in Yakumo and nearby Ainu people began to make wood-carved bear

  to improve their lives.

 

・Asahikawa, Hokkaido

→It started when Umetarou Matsui, an Ainu tribe, made a wood-carved

  bear in Asahikawa City.

・In 1960, various tourist attractions such as Hitsujigaoka Observation Deck and Noboribetsu Bear Ranch were opened to revive the local industry.

・In the decades from 1960, the number of tourists visiting Hokkaido has increased by about 3.6 times.
