Hokkaido shrine
It
has been over one hundred years since Hokkaido shrine was built on the Meiji
emperor`s command. And he ordered that
we should worship three gods of pioneering. So Yoshitake Shima who had launched
the designs of Sapporo City at that time decided to build Hokkaido shrine in
the Maruyama which was enclosed in three directions by mountains. As a result,
the existence of an institution which have worshiped the Gods of Shinto was the
place where the settlers who pioneered Hokkaido could communicate to each other.
Also, now Hokkaido shrine is the place where people assemble to pray the Gods.

In the Meiji period, many people migrated from Hiroshima to Hokkaido. It is said that they built the shrine in their hometown as a model. But, in that era, this shrine was called Tsukisamu Shrine. But, in the Showa period, this shrine was renamed to its current name. It is a shrine where you can understand the relationship between Hokkaido and the whole country in the old days.
