TSUKISAMU ANPAN

Do you know “TSUKISAMU ANPAN”?

Tsukisamu is a place in Sapporo. ANPAN is a bun with bean-jam inside. I will show you the history of “TSUKISAMU ANPAN”.

In the Meiji era (18681912), “The Army 25th Infantry Regiment”, which was the largest army in Hokkaido, was stationed in Tsukisamu.

In the 7th year of the Meiji era, “SAKURA ANPAN” of Kimuraya in Tokyo had become popular. Oonuma Jinzaburo, who sold confectionery to the army, heard the news and he tried to make “ANPAN”. Then, he taught others how to make “ANPAN”. One of them was Honma Yosaburo, who was the founder of “TSUKISAMU ANPAN”. He started to make “TSUKISAMU ANPAN” in Tsukisamu village.

There is an “ANPAN Road” in Tsukisamu. I know about it because I have lived in Tsukisamu for 19 years. When I was elementary student, I used to walk on the road.

“ANPAN road” was made by “The Army 25th Infantry Regiment” and the local residents. At the time, the local government served five “ANPAN” to the soldiers one by one, so the road is called “ANPAN Road”.

There is a monument to the road in Tsukisamu. “TSUKISAMU ANPAN” is still popular among people in Tsukisamu.

The TSUKISAMU ANPAN dough contains many eggs. The dough is low in water content and has a firm, dense texture, allowing it to be stored longer than ordinary bean-jam buns. TSUKISAMU ANPAN has a shelf life of about one month.

This food is characterized by its chewiness when eaten. It is a little firm, and you can feel a lot of red bean paste!

TSUKISAMU ANPAN has many variations of flavor (Anko, pumpkin, green tea, sesame bean paste, and more...)

It has a long history, so Hokkaido people eat it during the war.

This food has long been a part of Hokkaido culture, so it appears in the popular manga "Golden Kamuy,"

Also, for this reason, products in collaboration with this work have been released.

The main store TSUKISAMU ANPAN is in Sapporo, Tsukisamu.

They also produce other delicious foods. For example, they make sweet red bean buns with strawberry bean jam in spring.

In addition, they make deep-fried doughnuts filled with azuki bean paste, called “TSUKISAMU Doughnut.” It seems so tasty!

TSUKISAMU ANPAN is also sold in bar form.

However, this product is not sold now. I was a little disappointed.

There are much more than these products, so I recommend checking them out!

That's all for my topic.

Thank you for reading!!
