INTRODUCTION
The number of train stations in Japan is gradually
decreasing because of the decreasing of population. Particularly this has
happened remarkably in Hokkaido. Hokkaido has many local areas which have a
decreasing population. So the stations in Hokkaido are disappearing. But the
old stations are good historical and cultural heritages. Let’s check out the
stations in Hokkaido.
The Tsukigaoka station
There was the Tsukigaoka station on the Sassyo line. But now, the Tsukigaoka station has been
abandoned station because the Sassyo line was abolished in 2020. As a side
note, the Sassyo line was the Gakuentoshi line, so when we go to Hokkaido University
of Education , we have to take trains on Gakuentoshi line. Of course the Tsukigaoka station is an abandoned
station but we can see it. Because the the Tsukigaoka station has historical
and cultural worth, the Tsukigata city decided to preserve this station .

The Kyu-Shiratki Station
This is the former Shirataki station, which is a closed station in Mombetsu in
Hokkaido. The station was closed in winter of March 2016. The scene was broadcast on
television. This news was famous around the world. That was because the station had
been kept open for only one high student girl. After she graduated from her high school, the
Shirataki station was closed. The station was open for only one passenger. This story will
continue to be told in Hokkaido. Why don’t you visit once too?

Kayano station
Kayano station is one of the stations on the Horonai Line, the oldest railroad line
in Hokkaido. It opened in 1913 and closed
in 1987 when the Horonai Line was discontinued.
Today, it is used as a tourist spot and a rider house after being repaired in the
2000s. You can see a building which was built more than 100 years ago.
If you are interested in Hokkaido history, would you like to visit there?

Aikappu station
I’ll introduce Aikappu station. It was opened in 1946. This is a station on the Hokkaido Chihoku plateau railway Furusato Ginga Line. It was abandoned in 2006 due to the wiring of the Furusato Ginga Line. This station is famous due to its auspicious name. The name is popular because it sounds like a loving couple, weddings have once been held at this station. We can’t go inside now, but why don’t you visit here?
