Baratogawa Green Land

 Hi there!

Today, I will introduce Baratogawa Green Land, which is close to our university.

Baratogawa Green Land is a relatively new park which opened in 2014.

This is the map of Baratogawa Green Land. As you can see, it is a very large park so you can relax, go for a walk, exercise, play golf and so on.

There are various playground equipment in Tsudoi-no-hiroba.

The equipment is scientific design, so children can enjoy learning science while playing with it. 

 

In Mizube-no-hiroba, you can see many kinds of flowers.

There’s no need to worry if you don’t know what flower is planted. Thanks to these panels, you can learn about some flowers.

Also, you can see a lot of birds in every area.

On the official website, you are able to get this map which describes wild bird’s habitats.

In addition, you can get more information at the administration office. I recommend you to go there and enjoy nature!!

Recently, a bear appeared in Lake Hare, near this park. I’m sure every student in this university knows that because we received a warning from the university.

For this reason, Baratogawa Green Land had been closed by June 18th.

Although now we can enter there, you have to watch out for bears.

You should read Yukino’s blog “What to Do When You Come Across a Bear” to prepare for when you meet them.

Actually, I’ve never been there so I really want to go and take some pictures in my free time.

If you’re interested, you should visit while you are a university student.

Roadside Rest Areas in Hokkaido

 Today, I will introduce roadside rest areas in Hokkaido.

What are “roadside rest areas?”

In Hokkaido, there are 126 rest areas for long drives, they offer various services like local products and food. Roadside rest areas have three functions: refreshments, local community, and information. The roadside rest areas in Hokkaido organize a stamp rally, and you can join it for 300 yen. All roadside rest areas have their stamps, so you collect the stamps of each roadside station. You can get a prize if you gather a fixed number of stamps.

Popular Roadside Rest Areas

First, Sun Flower Hokuryu, which is located along National Highway 258 in Hokuryu Town. As you can see, it has a unique antique appearance. The feature of this roadside station is not only the appearance but also the facilities. You can enjoy hot springs, sunflowers in summer, and the products related to sunflowers. This station has a hotel, so if you want, you can stay there. 

Second, I will tell you about “Salmon Park Chitose '' which is located along National Highway 337. You can see the scene of catching salmon with a water wheel in Autumn because salmon go upstream every year in the Chitose River. Also, you can have delicious pizzas, ice creams, and so on. 

In addition to these roadside rest areas I introduced today, there are many attractive stations in Hokkaido. If you have an opportunity, would you like to visit roadside stations?

Summer is coming soon in Hokkaido. 

The dish which many residents there want to eat on hot summer days is Jingisukan!

It is a grilled lamb or mutton dish like under the picture and one of the local dishes here.

In Hokkaido, there are a lot of kinds of sauce for Jingisukan, so I want to introduce "Jingisukan no tare", which is the most famous of them.

What is Bell Shokuhin?

Jingisukan no tare is produced by Bell Shokuhin, so I will introduce Bell Shokuhin first.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

Bell Shokuhin is one of the long-established food companies in Hokkaido. It has run since 1947. It produces various kinds of seasoning such as barbecue sauce,

chilled ramen soup, soup curry stock, and so on. In this company, the most famous food product is Jingisukan no tare, which has been produced since 1956.

 The reason why Jingisukan became one of the popular dishes in Hokkaido

　　　　　　　　　　　　

When Bell Shokuhin started to sell Jingisukan no tare, Jingisukan was not popular in Hokkaido, so it didn’t sell well. Then, Mr. Yamamoto, who was the president of this company at that time, decided to sell it with an iron pan for Jingisukan.  Additionally, he planned and carried out some lectures by nutritionists about Jingisukan, which were held in various regions of Hokkaido. Owing to these efforts,  its sales began to improve a lot, and Jingisukan became well known by many people in Hokkaido.

The ingredients of Jingisukan no tare

The base of Jingisukan no tare is soy sauce. Bell Shokuhin often uses vegetables made in Hokkaido to produce their food products, so it contains onion and garlic paste. Its sourness is just right and it goes well with lamb and mutton which are not seasoned.

Hello, I’m Aino. In this blog, I will show you the ranking of the shows in Datejidaimura (in Noboribetsu). I arbitrarily ranked those. Please refer to this blog when you go to Datejidaimura.

No.1    Ninja show in Kasumiyashiki    

   

 This show is so popular that the audience watches it while standing.  And the stage is close to the audience’s seats, so we feel impressed. There are various gimmicks around Kasumiyashiki. For example, the Ninja comes out from the floor of the stage, and out from the side window. Those gimmicks make us more excited. I thought I did want to be a Ninja on the stage when I watched this show.

No.2   Outdoor Action Show in Ninjatoride

 This show is held outdoors, so we can watch bigger scale battle scenes than the Ninja show. The highlight is that  the Ninjas do the wire stunts. And there are many battle scenes, so someone who doesn’t understand the story can also enjoy the show. Perhaps there will be children who want to be Ninjas in the future after watching this. When it rains, the class which teaches us how to use shuriken is held instead of the show.

No.3   Oiran Show in Japanese Traditional Culture Theater

　

 This show is special because we can join the performance as a Shogun. One of the audience members who wants to participate in the play will be selected by lottery.  He can wear a Shogun costume, act, and play with Oiran. The audience laughed at his act with difficulty. You will be fascinated by the Oiran and the gorgeousness and beauty of the theater.

No.4   Nyanmage Comedy in O’edo Theater

This show is popular among children. The detail of this show is that Nyan-mage, the mascot character of Datejidaimura, appears in the play to reconcile the quarreling couple. His actions are so cute and funny. This show doesn’t have many battle scenes but it is a show that even adults can enjoy and be a little impressed.

The Snow Art Museum

Hello, everyone. In this article, I am going to introduce the snow art museum which is located in Asahikawa, Hokkaido. The concept of this museum is snow and ice since Asahikawa is a very cold place and it snows heavily in winter.

This museum was built in 1991 using the European Byzantine style. Visitors often say it looks like a castle in Europe. Also, it became very popular thanks to the movie, Frozen, which attracts many people, especially children from all over the world to Asahikawa. However, unfortunately, this museum will close on June 30th, 2021 because there was a sharp drop-off in sales due to COVID-19.

 So in order to express the appreciation for 30 years of hard-work, I’ll tell you what makes this museum so popular. These are three highlights of this museum.
Firstly, the spiral staircase. You can see the beautiful spiral staircase as soon as you enter the museum. As you get close to upstairs, you will be getting more excited little by little.

Secondly, the fountain. It is said that your dreams come true if you throw your coins into the fountain. Because of this, there are coins from various countries at the bottom of the fountain, from a lot of tourists from all over the world.

Lastly, “snow crystal museum”. This exhibition is made by taking videos of snow crystals then reflecting them on the entire wall of the room. It looks as if it were stained glasses.

 In addition, there are a lot of highlights you can enjoy such as a concert hall, café, a museum shop, and a restaurant. You can enjoy not only seeing exhibitions but also eating or shopping.
This fantastical and beautiful museum has been making us happy for such a long time. So I hope you can visit it at least once before the museum is closed.

Hi, I’m Momoka. Today, I'm gonna introduce Butadon's charms. 

Probably, everyone who lives in Hokkaido has tried Butadon. But, do you know why Butadon is famous in Hokkaido? The reason is connected to the cultivation of the land of Tokachi plain. Here, there are many pig farmers, so they are enthusiastic about pig raising.

Farmers worked really hard every day, so someone thought that they wanted them to eat sustaining meals. Firstly, it was considered to use eel, but it was so expensive and difficult to get, so instead of using it, pork got people's attention as a nutritious food.

In this way, Butadon became famous in Tokachi.  

 Tokachi is the birthplace of Butadon, so especially in Obihiro, there are a lot of Butadon restaurants. Also, Butadon is not only famous in Tokachi, but also famous throughout Hokkaido, so Sapporo also has good Butadon restaurants. I’ll introduce great restaurants in Hokkaido.

Hamatonbetsu

Have you ever heard of Hamatonbetsu? It is a town located in the north of Hokkaido. Hamatonbetsu is rich with nature. Many kinds of wild animals can be seen throughout a year. And a primary industry is popular. I’ll introduce the charms of Hamatonbetsu.

       

There is a lake called Kuccharoko in Hamatonbetsu. Kuccharoko is designated by the Ramsar Convention as swamp reservation for waterfowl. The lake is an important place for waterfowl. Various migratory birds such as swans come to the lake in autumn and spring every year. The lake is also important as the center of the sightseeing industry. A festival related to the lake is held annually. Many people can get in touch with nature through this festival. At the same time, this is a chance to let tourists participating in the festival learn about its specialties. Dairy farming and fishing are popular in Hamatonbetsu. So milk products and scallops are the main specialty. Each and every specialty is very delicious. You can’t help eating them again and again when you eat them once. Also, there is a camping site near the lake. In summer, you can enjoy entering the lake, having a BBQ, rowing a canoe …etc. When you feel tired, you can take in a hot spring or a footbath. If you want to stay near the lake and aren’t going to camp, you can stay at cottages. But there are only four different types of cottages and they are very popular. So I recommend you to make a reservation earlier.
